Mr M. thumbed a ride on bicycle along the converted railway path in 2003

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside ...

Starting from Trailways Cycle Hire, just outside of Whitby, we headed south for Scarborough.

Bay Ness is just north of Robin Hoods Bay

The path is described as "easy", and whilst being entirely off-road makes it suitable for family cycling, the chauffeur found it quite hard going in places.

Large sections are deeply rutted, preventing any speedy progress. Other sections are relatively even and covered in crushed ash(?), but due to prolonged dry weather, this was loose in places and like cycling on sand.

However, on a clear day, the superb views will soon distract your attention from the slow pace.

And the climb at Ravenscar is worth it, because it is a great ride back down!!!

At the end of the day, we drove into Whitby, in time for sunset. (The chauffeur had cycled far enough without doing an extra seven miles into Whitby and back.)
